‘ I have actually found that books can transport children to another location.’ Judith has been volunteering as a bedside reader at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust because 2003. After retiring from teaching, Judith wished to continue to use her storytelling skills to assist children who are poorly. ‘I had actually always delighted in reading to the children in school at the end of the day. You might see them visibly relax and be absorbed by the story. I believed this might also apply to kids in hospital. I volunteer on the children’s oncology wards in the health center. I have seen the interruption reading a story can do to support the personnel. The kids are little heroes. To witness their guts is a benefit.’ Thank you for your compassion and care Judith. Mark signed up with the NHS in his 30s after leaving his household’s company without any official credentials, however a drive to make a difference. He started as a mental health support worker and went on to train as a general nurse. He certified at 37 and spent the next 20 years progressively climbing up the ladder. He even returned to work in the same medical facility ward he was born in, taking on the role of ward manager. ‘ I attempted to turn off a bedside light and seemed like something wasn’t right with me. I understood straight away it was a stroke.’ In July 2023, after an active vacation kayaking and walking, Bob all of a sudden had a stroke. He was zipped air ambulance to University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, where he invested four weeks fixing up. ‘I utilized the gym frequently and did neurorehabilitation online (NROL)’. NROL is a group rehabilitation programme for people who have actually had a stroke or have other neurological conditions. ‘I had a structured schedule which provided me something to eagerly anticipate each week – socially, mentally and mentally.’ Bob thanked NHS personnel for ‘the wonderful assistance’ and the ongoing physiotherapy he got. ‘ Working together with nurses and seeing the distinction they made inspired me to think, ‘I might do that! » Meet Sharon, a sexual health nurse and non-medical prescriber who started her nursing journey in 1985 at the Royal Liverpool Teaching Hospital. In 2010 she joined Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust and continues to serve patients in Hertfordshire. ‘I liked helping individuals and finding out about the body, so nursing simply felt right.’ Sharon shows. Sharon has actually operated in male infertility, menopause, miscarriage and colposcopy to call a couple of, showing the large range of locations in which nurses make a distinction. ‘Truly, I can’t think about a location where nurses do not make an impact in some type,’ Sharon admits.
